Ashley Heatherman MS/LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Contract Therapist
My name is Ashley Heatherman and I have been an independent contract therapist at Behavioral Medicine, PC for over two years. I graduated with a Masters in Social Work from Saint Louis University in 2006. I became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 2011, after working in a mental health setting and staying home with the first of my three young children.
I have worked and trained in numerous settings including hospitals, schools, a mental health clinic, as a foster care case manager, and now this private practice. Each of these experiences has shown me the insurmountable strength each person has to overcome trauma, loss and adversity. I believe that given encouragement, healthy coping skills and a safe environment, every individual is capable of change and growth.
My goal is to provide each of my clients that safe environment in which to grow and explore their needs and issues. I believe in a client centered approach to treatment, utilizing one’s own personal strengths, insights and life experiences to aid and guide treatment.
I utilize an eclectic approach to treatment including utilizing cognitive behavioral approaches, systemic theory, psycho-social education, and relaxation training. I have extensive training in cognitive behavioral therapy to treat emotional, physical and sexual traumas and PTSD. I also work with children, individuals, families and couples in dealing with anxiety, depression, family conflict, abuse history, memory and cognitive deficits, and parenting issues. My professional experience includes A.L.I.V.E (Alternatives to Living in Violent Environments) counseling for adult and child domestic abuse clients, providing individual, group, and family therapy services to families and children for a variety of mental health needs, and coordinating and conducting group therapy sessions
Experience/Credentials:
I have a Masters in Social Work, with additional training that includes handling domestic violence crisis hotline calls, addressing issues with both adult and child domestic abuse clients such as safety, cycles of abuse, and self-esteem, and group therapy sessions with adolescents to address anger management, personal boundaries, conflict resolution, relaxation techniques and problem solving skills. I am trained and certified to conduct Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) sessions and to utilize Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT) in a therapeutic setting with victims of traumatic stress and grief.
Behavioral Medicine, owned and operated by Cynthia Kindgren MS/LCPC, offers a variety of behavioral and mental health services including pain evaluation/management, grief/loss counseling, EMDR, hypnosis (pain regulation, anxiety, depression, self-esteem), cognitive retraining, couples/marriage counseling, relaxation training, and depression/anxiety counseling.
